Knowledgeable volunteers, Stephen Barlow and Barry Probin will guide you across the moss, in exploration of the diversity of the emerging butterflies and dragonflies. Fenn’s, Whixall and Bettisfield Moss is home to the iconic bog dragonfly, the White-faced Darter.

Dragonflies are amongst the fastest flying insects. They can fly backwards, forwards, up and down, at speeds of up to 30mph. Some of the dragonflies you will see can be years old, but they will only spend a few months of their lives as dragonflies. They spend the majority of their early time underwater as a nymph.

The event is free to attend, but as always donations are welcomed to support our work. Please email fergusw@shropshirewildlifetrust.org.uk to book your place as are there are limited spaces available. Meet at the Manor House car park for 1:30pm as the walk will leave promptly at 2pm. Bring weather appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. It’s also advisable to bring insect repellent, sun cream and any drinks and snacks you will need. And don’t forget some binoculars incase we see any exciting birds.
